Water Pollution in Malaysia

by | 06-05-2017 10:06

Water Pollution has been a big fuss over the world for years. Why are we so concerned about water pollution?

So first of all, lets take a step back and look at the importance of clean water:
- Health: Diseases from dirty water kill more people people every year than forms of violence, including war 1
- Time:  In Africa alone, women are spending 40 billions hours a year just to walk water 2
- Women Empowerment: Women are responsible for 72% of water collected in Sub-Saharan Africa 3

Now we know how clean water is able to bring such impact on us. However, clean water are wasted through water pollution.

Garbage trapped by the log boom in Sungai Pinang in Jalan Sungai, Penang. A government spokesman said many take the easy way out by dumping everything into rivers, even though they know very well that this will pollute the waterways. Contract workers

The issue of water pollution in Malaysia is loads of rubbish clogging up Malaysian rivers. Two thousand, two hundred tonnes of rubbish - equivalent to the combined weight of more than 300 adult African elephants - is dumped into rivers, drains and waterways of Malaysia every month 4. This causes a large sum of money are required to recover the river. These rubbish chocked the aqua lives and destroyed the beautiful scenery of nature.

One of the main problem faced by my country is the lack of awareness among the citizens.

Please do reply on how can we solve this issue. Together we can make the Earth Greener =)
