![]() ![]() The mangrove forests are one of the most vital water ecosystems in the Philippines. Mangroves survive high amounts of salinity. This ecosystem provides an amazing amount of biodiversity varying from algaes to surface animals. Their roots provide shelter for both saltwater and freshwater creatures while the forest provides foods for many types of species. In the Philippines, with it's typhoons and frequent natural disasters, mangroves play a very important biological function. They have a high capacity in recovering from natural disasters and they can offer an obstacle for the winds and waves making the intensity of the storm lessen for the community. Their roots can also stabilize shorelines on top of it all. Mangroves are majestic beings both in their physique and their biology. That's why yesterday [April 22], Let's Do It Philippines together with different stakeholders planted 100 mangroves in Punta Dumalag, Davao City. And the Hawaii'an proverbs remain true, I nā mālama ?oe i ka ?āina, na ka ?āina malama iā ?oe (if you take care of the land, the land will take care of you).
