Chumbe Island Coral Park Tanzania

Chumbe island is situated 12 kilometres of stonetown zanzibar and 6 kilometres from the nearest point on the unguja coast chukwani.its amongst several conserved areas in Tanzania  and amongst four conserved areas in Zanzibar.Chumbe closely boarders the menai bay conservation area.Chumbe Island Coral Park has been registered in Zanzibar in 1992 for the sole purpose of establishing and managing the park.The main aim aim of the company is non commercial ,while operations follow commercial principles and directions.

CHICOP is registered as marine protected area with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring in Cambridge United Kingdom and was also distinguished as member of the UNEP Global Forum in 2000.

The nature includes the Chumbe Reef sanctuary ,a close forest habitat ,a Visitors Centre and Eco lodge .Management is based on consecutive management plan 1995 to 2005 and 2006 to 2016.

A main reason for the project was the observation of high bio diversity values,in both the reef and forest habitat.Permitted uses of marine park includes swimming ,snorkeling and underwater photography,education and research.

Fishing activities ,anchorage ,collection of specimen are not allowed ,Research is coordinated with the institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Dar es salaam and regulated by the Chumbe Island Management Plans 1995 to 2005 and 2006 to 2016.
