Waste water generated from industrial and domestic. Waste water is one of water pollution? sources. Here is a common domestic waste water management in Indonesia.

Wastewater can be divided into black water and gray water. Black water is wastewater that comes from toilets, while gray water coming from the kitchen activities, washing, and bathing. Generally, black water will flow into the septic tank. Septic tanks will process black water with the principle of precipitation. Water that has been treated will be absorbed into the ground. This water will infiltrate into groundwater. Septic tanks should be cleaned to remove the sediment sludge. While gray water usually goes straight into the gutter. Therefore, it is not uncommon if the ditch is smell and growing plants as a result of nutrient contained in the water.

In addition, domestic wastewater is also treated using the communal system. In Surabaya, one of big cities in Indonesia, communal waste water treatment plant are build by the government and will be operated by the community. Off site waste water treatment plant using sewer system generally still on a small scale, such as in housing complex. The usage of it is still limited because expensive and difficult in construction.
