To find an environmentalist used to be a rarity years ago. The majority of the population didn't care or see the point of protecting the natural world. Since the onset of 20^th century our world has witnessed many environmentalists and their dedicated work for our mother earth. My fellow ambassadors have highlighted the remarkable work of so many known admirable environmentalists, yet the list is unending.

To begin with, I want to unfold the information about one of my favorite environmentalist-

Rachel Carson, a marine biologist, environmentalist and writer who ed the world to the environmental impact of fertilizers and pesticides.  Her best-known book, Silent Spring, led to a presidential commission that largely endorsed her findings and helped to shape a growing environmental consciousness. Carson died in 1964 and is remembered as an early activist who worked to preserve the world for future generations.

Her work has genuinely helped in shaping the consciousness towards our environment.  Through her writings she initiated the global environmental movement. She is regarded as one of the most influential people of the 20th century.

Theodore Roosevelt

Apart from being the 26^th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt was one of the early champions for the environment. He believed protecting the environment was essential to the health and future of the country. Through his efforts, he managed to protect around 230 million acres of national land, as well as establishing the National Park Service and passing the Antiquities Act, which created many national monuments.

Wangari Maathai

Not many people think environmental issues have much to do with peace, but they are often closely related. Wangari Matathai is the first environmentalist to be awarded the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize for her program the Green Belt Movement, which is based in Kenya. The program was created to address soil erosion, deforestation and water scarcity, but it has had the secondary effects of empowering women and promoting peace. http://www.outofstress.com

Apart from these world renowned environmentalist I cannot conclude my report without mentioning my admirable environmentalists at local level in my city.

First of all, I want to mention my environment teacher in my school Ms Anjum Hasan who has been foremost in initiating environment projects in our school. There is no denying the fact that she is one of the most admirable environmentalist of UAE. She is a biologist as well as an environmentalist. She has not only mentored many students in the school towards being environment conscious but also helped our school to win environment accolades like Green Flag, SEAA Awards. etc.

Habiba Al Marashi is the co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group, a pioneering organization based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. She has played a key role in the growth of the EEG.

 EEG is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 2008. Projects like ONE ROOT ONE COMMUNITY, UAE CLEAN UP DRIVE AND Neighborhood Recycling Campaign have been a huge success since its inception under her guidance.
