EFFLUENT AND WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE.

by Yvonne Wabai | 07-02-2017 15:09

Hello, fellow eco-warriors! Waste management is a critical issue in Kenya. Although most of the littering has stopped, there's still the issue of waste collection and disposal. For example, in some areas, waste collection trucks fail to stick to schedule and most do not even show up at all. As a result, many have taken it upon themselves to create dumpsites wherever there is an open space in proximity. Additionally, there aren't really laws that dictate how companies should deal with their waste and even where there are laws, most companies treat them as suggestions because there's hardly any consequences for illegal waste dumping. Companies therefore prefer to cut corners when it comes to waste management as it saves them money. This situation is the reason why I was  excited to  monitor the proceedings of the Effluent and Waste Management Conference that is currently ongoing in Nairobi. The conference is taking place in Crown Plaza, registered attendees only today and tomorrow. I will not be able to attend the conference because I've just found out about it and I'm not currently in Nairobi but I have logged onto the website 10times where I will be able to follow the progress of the conference and also interact with the attendees. In attendance are several representatives from several companies, NGOs and environmental initiatives/campaigns around the country. I look forward to informing you all on the proceedings of the conference. I believe that this conference is a good start at solving our waste management problem.
