Seasonal Environmental Issue: Forest Fire

A prolonged drought in Indonesia could cause forest fires. It is not uncommon considering that forest fires in Indonesia also gave impact to Singapore and Malaysia.

 

According to the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika or Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), the main cause of forest fires is due to the impact of El Nino (1). Hot spots are usually located in Sumatra or Kalimantan.

 

To fighting forest fire, government using water dropping helicopters or creating artificial rain. Additionally firefighters descended directly to the location. But this way is quite difficult because it is constrained by water resources.

 

As a result of forest fires, there is smoke that spread until Singapore and Malaysia. Because of the smoke, people experiencing respiratory disease. School was closed and not a few people who had fled to avoid the smoke.
