Rogationist College Trip - Christmas Sharing

by Adam Zhou | 05-01-2017 22:27

In coming back to the Rogationist College for the second time, the rewarding sense of familiar faces was truly endearing, but perhaps, the highlight was encounters with new smiles. In the Christmas Sharing event on the 18th of December, this was especially the case, with an audience of over 300 underprivileged children as well as tens of facilitators with a congruent vision of accomplishing service. Such an experience serves only to inspire for future such events.

This event?s main goal was to celebrate the spirit of the season through holiday performances such as singing and dancing as well as collaborative games, but however, this was only the surface of what transpired. As many of the children leave the school center on the weekends (with costs fully covered by donations), many don?t have the privileges of greeting family members, or a safe home, or even the feeling of general protection. This Christmas Sharing, as well as the other activities conducted by partners such as UNESCO clubs, dismantles the negativities, and rather, builds skills needed for their future. For instance, a speech conducted by Omar Kausar, the VP of Public Relations of our own organization, told a narrative of the importance in learning and respect in our communities. In addition, the seemingly trivial recommendations of simple tasks such as throwing away trash to not wasting food made them more aware of mitigating global concerns.

Facilitating was a unique task at hand, even when language barriers made it hard to communicate directly. A sense of leadership is also very much needed as an ambassador in promoting Tunza?s objectives, and learning from peers helped with that. Teaching is something, but engaging the audience keeps what you teach etched in the mind for years to come.

On another note, two entire boxes of Tunza school items were handed out to the entire audience and hopefully they could be used to further express themselves or assist in learning whatever interests they hold. Some even shared their dreams - in very high detail, I must add - in the form of drawings and annotations, or gave an image of how they wanted the world to look like for the future generation. In introspection, it?s evident that with the power of awareness, many are passionate, as well as capable to protect the wellbeing of Mother Nature.
