by Dewi Retno S | 20-12-2016 20:51

There are many events going on this year that will have an impact on next year. Here are a few to watch out for:

The election of Donald Trump as the next President of the United States

Donald Trump in his campaign said United States will withdraw from the Paris Agreement, reopen coal mines, as well as the repeal environmental regulations. This is not good news, considering the United States is one of the countries that play an important role in the policy and environmental action in the world.

Substitution UN Secretary General

The term for current UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, will finish soon. He will be replaced by Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres. UN Secretary General could encourage the reformation of the UN Secretariat to improve accountability of the implementation of the commitments and global agenda. So, the change of UN Secretary General could affect the implementation of environmental policy in the UN member states.

Otoritas Jasa Keuangan Indonesia (Financial Services Authority) to Bans Bank on Funding Environmental Destroyer Company

In Indonesia, the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) will prohibit the acceptance of credits from companies that considered damaging the environment. This step is one of the sustainable financial commitments that have been proclaimed by the OJK since 2014. In the sustainable financial road map 2015-2019, is expected to synergize economic interests and the preservation of nature.
