![]() Omanis are closely linked to trees since old ages. In demonstrating their commitment, the Sultanate of Oman celebrated "Tree Day" on October 31. The date marks the peak winter agricultural season when most of the tree seedlings are planted.
The Al Batinah Farmers Society also planted trees under One Million Tree Project.
Muscat Municipality conducted a tree planting event at Al Qurum Natural Park together with a number of local institutions. Khalid bin Mohammed Bahram, Assistant Chairman of Muscat Municipality, said: "The celebration embodies the attention given by Muscat Municipality to increase the green areas and plantation of trees within the capital city. The municipality is planning to expand the green area on the main roads, internal roads, public parks and neighborhood."
The exhibition gave people information on practical ways to care for the plants like tools used in agriculture and irrigating crops and pest control, particularly in gardens at homes. The Ministry of Education participated in the exhibition with 100 students of different age groups from five schools.
The exhibition familiarized the public with the importance of planting trees and the importance of conserving environment. The municipality also distributed free 1,000 ornamental seedlings to people at the Qurum Natural Park, Wadi Kabir Park, Sahwa Park and Amerat Park. |
