Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"

by | 21-11-2016 11:55

Al Gore has been a leading figure in the climate crisis for decades. He has been a main component for spreading awareness on the facts and inevitability of the environmental crisis, and he has helped instill in people a determination to promote and participate in change. His book, "An Inconvenient Truth," was created in conjunction with the film. The statement that held the most significance to me was when Al Gore said: "as for why so many people still resist what the facts clearly show, I think, in part, the reason is that the truth about the climate crisis is an inconvenient one that means we are going to have to change the way we live our lives." The book works as a summary of the climate crisis and the leading arguments and facts regarding what is currently happening. It is such a successful book because of its reader-friendly layout, using anecdotes, graphs, pictures, and short quotes to explain what other books go on for pages explaining. Those ignorant to the climate change crisis are far more likely to read a book like this, rather than a 300 page novel. And this book is all they need to read it states the facts, and if the readers still choose to resist what science says is fact than it is like what Al Gore said. It is hard to accept something because once you do it makes it a reality and you must deal with it. Climate change has so many validations, but it is still not something drastically seen in a person's every day life. It is already affecting people throughout the world, but for most, they can try to remain oblivious because they do not want to change their lifestyles. People like to live easily and conveniently, and sadly, nothing about the climate crisis or the solutions are convenient.
