The truth behind the Saen Saeb canal

by | 12-11-2016 21:12

Although it is a very important trasportation route in Thailand, Saen Saeb canal is not the cleanest and surely not the best place to go in and take a swim.
Now full of vibrant colored boats and litter flowing every where, believe it or not, the Saen Saeb canal was one of the cleanest canal in Thailand.
Before roads, we only have the rivers and canals to travel to many different places. People built homes near these rivers and canals. Children took a bath and go for a swim. But all these are in the past. My grandmother once told me that the Saen Saeb canal was so clean and clear you could see all the things under the water. All the fish swimming in it.
Now? It's the complete opposite. The only organism living there is bacteria. The smell was, well, very bad.
So, the question is, what made the once-clear and clean Saen Saeb river turn into this dirty, murky river?
The answer is simple Littering. Littering is one of the main causes of water pollution.
People have their estates near the rivers, and when they want to take out the trash, the easiest way to do is to throw them into the rivers and canals. They aren't aware of the major consequences following.
And it's not just the people who litter, it's also the officials who realized too late about the problem, and us that didn't care enough.
Just recently, that the plan for wastewater management came out. The officials promised that the Saen Saeb canal will be clean again by the nest two years. But is that possible? It might be, but to ensure that, we need to lend a hand too.
Wastewater management can be practiced anywhere. Let's start at our home. The first step is to separate our food scraps into a plastic bag. This will prevent the food scraps from clogging up the pipes and leading to  wastewater. The food scraps can then be made into fertilizers for plants.
Just these little things can have a huge impact on the environment, just like littering.
All these environmental problems we are facing right now are caused by no one other than us our selves. Let's join forces and help make our Earth a better place.
