This time the Sharjah Police have launched bicycle patrols which will cover the tourist areas, residential neighbourhoods and commercial centres in Sharjah . Such is done to reduce the response time and the step is also aimed at encouraging members of the public to use environment-friendly methods of transportation and comes as part of the emirate?s initiative to turn into an environmentally-friendly city.These bicycle will be working along with the car patrols in the emirate. He also said that said the bicycle patrols would enhance presence of the police in the field and curb crime rates. Sharjah Police have deployed 22 security, 12 police and 10 CID patrols in unmarked vehicles to ensure safety and security of residents. Brigadier Saif Ziri Al Shamsi, Sharjah Police commander-in-chief, said bicycle patrolling aims at enhancing speedy response and to ensure security and stability in the community. Sharjah is a very congested city , so having bicycles would make it easy for the police to reach at the accidents or emergency spots quicker than on cars , in case of heavy traffic. The bikes are very well equipped with the communication system which would help officers to communicate with the control room whenever needed. The bikes being eco-friendly would help to reduce the usage of cars as patrolling vehicles which will in turn be positive for the environment. SOURCE - GULFNEWS
