![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For more than a week now, I have been in Augsburg and then Possenhofen, both in Germany attending the Global Energy Revolution Summit organized by Plant-for-the-Planet, an environmental NGO for children and youth headquartered Germany. After the Global Youth Summit last year in Tutzing, Germany- which focused on climate change- by the same organization, it was only fitting that the sequel should address the gradual switch to a green economy, and promoting the current global revolution in the energy sector is a great way to achieve this. The summit which started on 30th October, 2016 had a lot of discussion from the legal, scientific, business and organizational perspective. It dealt a lot on developing renewable energy revolution for the planet and models which can be used to achieve that. The participants from over 30 countries across the various continents were able to develop and pitch ideas on renewable energy solutions in the area of consultancy, agriculture, power plants and many more. Germany and Bangladesh examples in the clean energy sector were repeatedly praised and the participants were encouraged to develop even new models of generating and creating solar electricity. It was indeed a very productive session with a lot of fruitful networks created. At the end of the summit on the 2nd of November, most of the participants continued further management training that will prepare them for the task ahead as climate justice ambassadors. The training will end later this week. Plant-for-the-Planet which will mark its 10 year anniversary next year, is a non-for-profit environmental organization for children and youth which is most popular for tree planting as a way of mitigating climate change. The United Nations in 2011 formally handed over the management of the Billion Tree planting campaign to Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation and over 14.1 billion trees have been planted globally with little over 15.6 billion tree pledged. It's target is to plant a trillion trees by 2020. You can help achieve this goal by planting or donating at Plant-for-the-Planet. It has been a great time for me here in Germany with my works in renewable energy getting a big boost and I am here with another TUNZA Eco-Generation Ambassador to Asia who is originally from India, Dharmendra Kapri, and we have been having a very productive time in Germany. I was also appointed as a member of the interim Global Board of Plant-for-the-Planet which will oversee its restructuring till March 2018. It started to snow yesterday but even that made our experience more interesting. Attention now shifts to COP 22 in Marrakesh! ![]() |
