Game of Dam-Water Vampires in Pakistanby | 04-10-2016 02:07 |

Kalabagh Dam formerly Affirmed as Dead Horse, and now has been placed in list of Ready to construct Projects by Federal Government of Pakistan 1- KPK wouldn?t get its due share of water from this Dam because of the gravity flow of water and geographical structure of the area as the water in rivers or streams always flows in direction of gravitational force, so Kalabhagh dam is located in South western part of KPK, where it has inclining area so the water from the dame cannot be streamed to distant areas of KPK like Pashawar Dir Banu Mehsera etc. 2- 0.5 to 0.7 million population will directly be displaced from Dam main Site and adjacent areas due to construction of this Dam 3- Construction of this Dam requires heavy finance, for which Pakistan will borrow Billion Dollars from players of international Financial Market like IMF, World Bank and Asian Development Bank, which will resultantly increase Pakistan?s foreign debt as the country already owning significant liability on its shoulders 4- The topology of the dam site is not in level, so it will require variable valium of water to manage a sustainable level of water in the dam from Indus River, which will resultantly hit the downstream flow of the Indus River being the sole source of water for this dam. 5- The change in flow of downstream of Indus will directly damage Sindh and Balochistan, but Sindh will suffer at peak. Sindh is the basket bread of Pakistan, which contributes 40% to 50% of agricultural production in total national agricultural production of Pakistan 6- Due to constriction of this useless giant dam the water flow of Indus River at its last three barrages ( Gudu Barrage, Sukkur Barrage and Kotri Barrage unfortunately all of them are located in Sindh) will significantly be reduced which will directly annihilate and damage the rice crop in Sindh which is highly water dependent crop on the planet and perhaps the major exporting agro product of Pakistan. So this will unswervingly shock socio economic life of not only Sindh, but Pakistan as whole. 7- According to Indus River System Authority (IRSA) 1991-92 agreement made with communal concerns of all four provinces. The Indus water was distributed with this proportion: Sindh 37%, Punjab 37% Balochistan 12% and KPK 14%. As Sindh was given 37% from Indus water as its share. Apart of that Sindh was instructed to supply 5% of its share to Karachi metropolis and 7% to Indus Delta. This 37% share was given to Sindh only for 4 years from 1992 to 1996. After the establishment and operations of Thul Greater Canal constructed at Indus River near Kotmathan in Punjab, the share of Sindh was reduced from 37% to 19%, since that Sindh has been getting 19% of water from IRSA. 8- This reduction in water share of Sindh has almost demolished all sort of flora and fauna in Indus Delta. It is estimated that since 1995 to date 200,000 acres of irrigated land of D Thatta, Badin and Sajawal districts have been crayoned and eaten up by salty waters of Arabian Sea and this carrion is becoming rapid year by year due to less supply of river waters in downstream of delta. 9- An Apt and appropriate canal systems cannot be built on this dam at all, which can carry water to the distant fertile areas of central and southern Sindh and Balochistan due to geographical position of this dam and presence of hundreds of cities, towns and thousands of villages and most importantly other 3 rivers and countless canals existing in Punjab from District Miawali the main site of Dam to Rahim Yar Khan. Structure and infrastructure of these all stuffs cannot be altered at any cost 10- The stored water can only be utilized by Punjab province at optimum through its already constructed canal and stream systems from Miawali to Norwal and Sialkot Districts. Equal to none will be given to other provinces. In last 6 months Ex-Chairman WAPDA Mr. Zafar Mehmood, he was appointed as chairman WAPDA in January 2016 on political motivation and he made to resign from chairmanship on August 22, 2016. This man tried a lot to wash the brain of communities across country through his writing skills he wrote a series of columns in different dailies of Pakistan in which he was trying to show the impressive and sparking view of the Dam, even Sindh?s largest circulated daily KAWISH published that series of columns containing the positivity of Dam at the same time he was equally opposed by some sons of soil like Engr: Idress Rajput and Ayaz Latif Pilejo. Apparently this man couldn?t do anything for which he was brought in the office, but he had grown a seed in a unfertile and skimpy soil which will defiantly be tried by new appointee Mr. Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil Hussein to be germinated and yielded. Most of Pakistanis are not aware of the consequences of this dilemma. Since the inception of idea of this Dam, it has been fabricated with its fascinating side only while the ground realities have been kept out of sights. Besides this there are many other countless hitches and hacks which will be due on country if this Dam is constructed and made functional once. Now let?s see how this retired army personnel will continue this mislaid game, which has already been wiped out.
