Meet Bangkok's Green in The City Project

by | 11-09-2016 20:45

As we all know, the amount of carbon emission has been increasing over the years, and every country is doing their best to try to find a solution to the problem. Thailand is one of those countries.

Recently, PTT, a gas company and one of the biggest stakeholders in Thailand, has introduced us to Bangkok's latest green space, also known as Bangkok's forest in the city or Green in the city.

The main purpose of this project is to make Bangkok greener by increasing green space.

Its total area is divided into 3 parts:

1. Forest area (75% of the total area)

Many species of plants can be found in the forest area, some examples are Teak, Dalbergia oliveri, Millingtonia hortensis etc.

Also you can take a stroll on the 200 meters long sky walk and enjoy the scenery. At the end of the sky walk you will come face to face with the observation tower. Besides the sky walk, the observation tower is another highlight at Bangkok's forest in the city because it allows a full 360 degrees view of the green area.

2. Water area (10% of the total area)

The water area consists of a stream winding its way across the forest area. Looking down from the sky walk, you will be able to see the stream and the fishes that live there. Some of the fish stay together as a group, swimming together, making their way through the stream.

3. Museum area (15% of the total area)

All the information you need about the project is in the museum. There will be a guide waiting for you at the entrance, so if you want to find out more, you can get additional information from the guide too. Near the museum, there is a staircase that leads right up to the roof garden, on the roof garden, there are seats for people who want to admire the view and drink in the scent of nature. Also there is a 10 minutes movie for visitors to watch. The movie focus on saving our forests and raising awareness in people that our Earth's forests are being cut down every day, there simple ways that we can help, such as planting trees (native plants are recommended).

The PTT Green in the city project uses Dr. Miyawaki's method which states that,"No management is the best management". This method works by planting a variety of plant species so they can grow naturally like in the forest, with similar competitions and factors that will help the plants grow.

This project makes people realized the beauty of nature and what is happening to our forests. It opens people's eyes and show them that it will be our loss if we let deforestation ruin our beautiful forests.

Although this project shows us the beauty of forests, there are still some beauty that it couldn't quite capture, for the forests that have grown from nature's loving arms give us more than its beauty but also a comfort, like a loving embrace from mother nature.

There is a quote from the movie that imprinted itself  inside my heart. "I want to plant first, the tree of love in your heart because one tree per person is not enough, but if we all help plant trees it will create something remarkable," to clarify this we can say that the tree of love in our hearts will give us the power to help save our Earth.
