Sustainable Transportation in U.S

by | 21-08-2016 10:35

Hello Tunza Eco-generation! This month is probably one of the busiest moments for any seniors applying to college here in United States, as online applications opened up beginning of this month. Good luck to all the seniors!

Going back to our main theme, this month?s topic is sustainable transport. I?ve read many articles from other ambassadors before I wrote this, and it?s always amazing to see how we?re using our advanced technology in environmental-friendly way. Since a lot of ambassadors somewhat introduced on transport itself, referenced from U.S Department of Transportation. Department of transportation?s sustainability Policy Statement in June 2014 states that the department will keep sustainability in mind to their policies, operations, investments and research using innovation, investments and other grant programs. Because most of their statements were pretty vague, I did further research about their specific actions.

One effort they?ve put was their claim of putting 80 million to increase supertruck efficiency. Using this money, the department will focus on researching and developing ?plug-in electric power train technologies.? The department also looks forward to develop an advanced infrastructure by establishing energy production based on harvesting variety of crops. According to the department of Energy, this bioenergy produced through this research project will contribute toward making the U.S transportation system cleaner and more efficient through solutions that put electric drive vehicles on the road.

I would like to take the statement from Department of energy to explain further about the sustainable transportation. They suggested that advances in electric vehicles are not only economic friendly (cost-effective) but also protects our environment by reducing our oil dependence and thus avoiding pollutions. The successes from eco-friendly vehicles include the ones from cars and trucks, where U.S was able to save billions of petroleum fuel (harmful) and made diesel passenger vehicles as clean as gasoline vehicles. In addition, 30 newly developed batteries and electric vehicle components are spreading across the country. The newly created batteries were very cheap to operate- the electricity needed to operate the vehicle was less than $1 per gallon of gasoline so it was helping both the customer and the environment.

Overall, United States Sustainable transportation heavily depended on innovative inventions with active involvement from the government departments. The outcome seem to indicate that the sustainable transportation, just like how other ambassadors suggested, seem to help both the economy and the environment.
