April theme report 'Áir pollution'

by Aysara Nuratdinova | 20-04-2023 15:48

Air pollution is  the release of pollutants into the air—pollutants which are hazardous to human health and the planet as a whole. Energy usage and production are the main sources of air pollution. For instance, burning fossil fuels sends gases and chemicals into the atmosphere.

Effects of air pollution are smog and soot, which reduces visibility of a place. Air contaminants among which, mercury, lead, dioxins, and benzene are some of the most prevalent. Greenhouse gases which result in global warming and this in turn leads to the some features of climate change: rising sea levels, more frequent severe weather, fatalities from heat, and an increase in the spread of infectious illnesses.

How can we help reduce air pollution? The less gasoline we burn, the better we can help to reduce air pollution, so make wise choices while choosing transportation such as electric cars, bikes or at least public transportation.  Additionally, purchasing food locally reduces the amount of fossil fuels used to transport it across the country by truck or plane. Supporting leaders who work for clean air, water, and responsible climate change action is especially critical.

Tips to protect ourselves from air pollution:

For exercising outside, it is better to consider to do it as far as possible from heavily trafficked roads. Consider wearing sunscreen, since when ultraviolet radiation comes through the weakened ozone layer, it can cause skin damage and skin cancer. Try to be in tobacco-free places  and last but not least strive to not burning wood.
