![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As we shift into a new millennium, our society must face the pressing environmental issues that we have ignored for so long. The earth's resources have dwindled tremendously and unnecessarily in recent years. People need to start saving our precious resources through Conservation. Schools can be role models for conserving our natural resources and plant a seed for students to take action. So, I along with my friends founded the Green team at school with the primary motive to initiate a green lifestyle among the students of our school and to make the school campus as Eco- friendly as possible. With a team of 10 students we initiated a plethora of events in our school. Eager students participated in the formation of the Green Team. This team was introduced with a flash mob that caught the entire school?s attention on 4th May. The highlight of the event was when a normal assembly was in progress, the 'Green students'appeared out of nowhere taking everyone aback. They talked, rather sung to mark the formation of this very group and also reiterate on the three 'R's– Reduce Reuse Recycle. The use of props and a catchy melody made the performance a major success. This Green Team attracted so much attention that from the same day itself students flowed in fervent to join the squad. The team now aims to plan a yearlong conservation drive in which various activities, awareness programmes, establishing proper water harvesting and paper recycling plants in school itself and also other conservation steps in schools and homes. It is expected to swell in number and teachers have also contributed enormously. The immense energy and contribution of students as well as teachers is expected to thrive throughout the years. We have so far initiated a paper recycling drive where we collect the waste paper accumulated in school and sent it to a recycling unit. My team also requested the school administration to send important circulars online to parents so that we are able to reduce the carbon footprint at school. We are also promoting the students to reuse materials and donate materials which they don?t require anymore so that the less fortunate can use the materials and benefit from them. For the same we collected old spectacles from students and donated those to a hospital. Further, we banned the usage of plastic bags in schools and also requested the students to use eco-friendly materials in their models and projects. I hope that the students would imbibe what I term as 'Green values' and make our world a cleaner and better place for all the eco-systems.. Please share your views :) |
