![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After the second workshop with children on 'insect food' as one of the solutions to the water shortage problem, our members explored diverse ways to approach children, getting 'insect food' idea familiar to them. Our member visited local insect food restaurant and cafe to try out various insect dishes. One restaurant called, 'Papillon's kitchen'(named after the 1973 year movie, 'Papillon', where main characters survived in prison, eating insects) served fool meal: appetizer, entree, and dessert. You could not tell served dishes were using insects as main ingredients by look. But problem is you already know what dishes are made of, scooping one spoon is difficult. I went to a cafe which serves variety of tea drinks made from insect powder. Tea tastes like Chinese medicine so you feel like you are getting healthier. Nowadays, 'insect food' idea gets attention from media in Korea, many newspapers and TV programs have special sections covering the food. However, general public's conception toward 'insect food' is still raw. Having 'insect food' is more like an event, one time deal. After trying out insect dishes, I come to a conclusion that indirect approach would be inevitable for children to get familiar with having insects as food. |
