India has recently got it's first crowdfunded eco-friendly electric bike "Spero".The bike is really funky. The funds to built the bike were raised through a campaign on an online crowdfunding platform by 38-year-old, Manikandan . He has been working for the last 3 years to design this bike. The bike is to be released with 3 models . The lowest costing model can travel about 30 km on a single charge while the other 2 costing more can travel upto 60km and 100km on a single charge. The bike is powered with 48V Li-ion battery which comes with one year warranty and is made by samsung .The barrtery can chargerd from electricity and can be charged by paddling too . As per the company, under normal conditions, once the battery is fully charged, the electric bike can run for 100 kms, and one unit is usually spent to charge it fully.Even if we assume Rs 9 per unit of electricity bill , Spero will deliver a knocking punch of only 9 paisa per km expense, or Rs 9 for 100 kms which is very economical and feasible for a country like India. The three models—e30, e60 and e100—will cost Rs55,500, Rs64,800 and Rs84,900 respectively, which will include cost of delivery.
