![]() 1. Harnessing Solar Energy Traditional energy sources are expensive and also some of them pollute the earth. Whether its fossil fuels – coal, oil or natural gasses everything got a price. But solar energy is different. There is this new trend that the business organizations and homes around the globe are now moving for solar power. Especially traditional energy gaining methods has been outfitted with modern, high-performance, and low-cost, single crystal silicon solar power cells. It reduces traditional energy expenditures and contributes to pollution reduction. Have you ever wondered who initialize advanced technology behind these solar devices? It was NASA. They form the Environmental Research Aircraft and Sensor Technology (ERAST) Alliance, sponsoring 28-member coalition of companies, government groups, universities, and nonprofits. The ERAST?s goal was to foster the development of remotely piloted aircraft intended to fly unmanned at high altitudes for days at a time, requiring advanced solar power sources that did not add weight. At the end SunPower Corporation achieved this goal by creating the most advanced silicon-based cells available for terrestrial or airborne applications. So as the result of NASA?s technology fortunately today we can utilize the solar energy. It provides up to 50 percent more power than conventional solar cells. 2. Pollution Remediation There are many recorder oil spills in history from oil ships in the ocean. These spills are damaging biodiversity in that ocean, pollute the water, and kill thousands of sea creatures. There is new product, thanks to NASA, which uses NASA?s microencapsulating technology is available to consumers and industry, enabling them to safely and permanently clean petroleum-based pollutants from water. Petroleum Remediation Product (PRP), the microencapsulated wonder has entirely changed the way oil spills are cleaned. Thousands of microcapsules are behind PRP. It is tiny balls of beeswax with hollow centers. Water cannot go through the microcapsule?s cell, but oil is absorbed right into the beeswax spheres as they float on the water?s surface. Contaminating chemical compounds are caught before they settle, limiting damage to ocean beds. Isn?t it wonderful that space technology is also saving life in the ocean? 3. Water Purification Whether it?s in the International Space Station or a small village in Africa, drinkable water is vital for human survival. But unfortunately, some people are not lucky like us. It is not new that many people around the world lack access to clean water. There is a new technology developed for the space station which will turn wastewater from respiration, sweat, and urine into drinkable water. This advanced water filtration and purification systems, make a life-saving difference in the communities where there is no access to clean water resources. Products which use this technology combines the benefits of chemical adsorption, ion exchange, and ultra-filtration processes, to produce safe, drinkable water from the most challenging sources, such as in underdeveloped regions where well water may be heavily contaminated. These three areas are only an introduction, how space technology changes your daily life and save the mother Earth.
