UNFCCC COP 22 in Marrakesh, Morocco

by Simran Vedvyas | 30-07-2016 17:36

UNFCCC COP 22

The 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties COP 22 to the UNFCCC will take place from 7-18 November 2016.

During COP 22, parties will, inter alia, begin preparations for entry into force of the Paris Agreement.

The COP22 Low-Emissions Solutions Conference is a direct follow-up to key commitments in the Paris agreement. In the agreement, every country is responsible for producing a Nationally Determined Contribution NDC for the period to 2030 as well as a Low-Emission Development Strategy LEDS to 2050

The Solutions Conference will assist nations in the technical preparations of their NDCs and LEDSs by bringing together technical experts, world-leading scientists and engineers, and sectors from business, academia, and civil society

The Solutions Conference will be aimed at problem solving, brainstorming, and global co-creation, without the pressures of inter-governmental negotiations or formal agreements. The goal will be to share knowledge, exchange information, identify bottlenecks, discuss best practices, and prioritize future research.

This is the first time in COP history that a large-scale technical-solutions conference is being organized for country delegations, placing innovative technological solutions at the heart of the meeting. The hope is that the Solutions Conference at COP22 will be the first of a series of similar annual events at future COPs.

Some Photos of our COP Initiatives

We organized a day long Debate Session.  The Youth support for United Nations Climate Change Conference gathered pace in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The event held at the University of Wollongong in Dubai UOWD during COP 20 witnessed over a hundred of the city s young people join forces in the bid to inspire international climate change action. The event - COP in My City Dubai  -took the form of a simulation conference that echoed negotiations at the United Nations Climate Change Convention

Attendees were joined by His Highness Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi – the Green Sheikh who enlightened the conference delegates with his knowledge and understanding of  Sustainability Responsibility.  Mr Rob Bradley, a senior expert in climate change and the energy sector, was present to moderate and engage the youth delegates as they role played in their assigned country positions.

Young people today represent half the planet. Mobilizing my generation by increasing knowledge about climate change and deepening the interconnections existing between international climate negotiations and local climate action is extremely important. We need to create a strong international and multi-cultural community of young agents of change committed to fight against climate change.
