This month?s topic was global warming. As one of the residents of United States, It is upsetting to inform you that North American region, especially the United States, is one of the most significant contributors to the global warming. Yet there are countless organizations and environmentalists who recognize this problem and try to improve on it as well.  I wasn?t fully aware of all the contributions my country makes, until I started researching about the global warming. I would like to first recognize the Union of Concerned Scientists and their website Climate Hot Map- Global Warming Effects around the World- for fully informing me about this topic. I?m glad to share this with you all, as Global Warming relates to everyone around the world.

The United States Energy Information Administration stated that the Source of United States Heat-Trapping Emissions in recent reports were Electricity CO2 ranking 1^st place (1/4), Transportation CO2 and Industrial CO2 following next, (19% and 18%) residential Co2 and Non-Co2 emissions, (13% each) and commercial CO2 with remaining 12% of the emissions. Related to this issue, the Union of Concerned Scientists stated that the United States can reduce their contribution to global warming by using less fossil fuels and concentrating on the energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The website continued their story by introducing countless moves United States make to improve the situations on global warming. It was too much information to discuss all, so I would like to list the themes, which includes: Energy Efficiency, Electricity from Renewable Energy, Coal Emissions Reductions, Better Vehicles, Cleaner fuels and Smarter Travel, Assistance for Developing Countries, and Regional Initiative through exchanging information and data. Each theme has organizations under these. For instance, for energy Efficiency, there are: American Council for an Energy, Department of Energy, Energy Star, UCS Blueprint 2030, and so on.

Before I end this article, I wanted to introduce interesting article from LA Times. It?s titled Global warming has made the weather better for most in U.S-but don?t get used to it, study says. According to the article, most Americans prefer warmer winter and less humid summers. Because Global Warming allows this, about 80% of the U.S population enjoys more pleasant weather than they did before. Because they enjoy this changing trend, researchers suggested that Americans will have little motivation to take action for Global warming. Americans need to realize that by the end of the century, the pleasant weather will reverse to unpleasant weather-warmer winter with hotter summer- because of Global warming. I hope more people take a step to improve conditions on Global warming.
