Sharjah has recently started installing trash bins with a difference. The first 10 smart bins have been installed by Bee?ah, the leading environment and waste management company in Sharjah. The smart trash bins offer free Wi-Fi access to the public! In these days when everyone wants to connect through internet, the smart bins are an innovative way to pull the crowd towards them and also make them dispose the waste in such bins. The smart bins also compact the trash, and notify the bin collector when they are full. The waste collected from such bins will be sent for recycling in the sophisticated Bee'ah plants.
The bins are designed and built by BigBelly, a leading provider of bin solutions in the USA. After the initial 10 new units, Bee'ah will install hundreds more of such Wi-Fi bins across Sharjah and the UAE in prominent locations where people visit in large numbers.
Khalid Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee'ah, said: "In cooperation with our strategic partners, Du and Shurooq, the roll-out of BigBelly smart bins across Sharjah is another step forward in cementing Bee'ah's commitment to environmental innovations, while increasing efficiency and utility of waste collection in the emirate."
Marwan Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, added: "Shurooq's tourism projects, such as the Heart of Sharjah, reflect our commitment to creating and developing destinations that are full of innovation and environmentally friendly technologies. In 2010, Shurooq and Bee?ah signed an MoU to work on transforming upcoming and existing tourism projects into eco-friendly destinations."
The bins' solar panels generate energy that is fed to an internal compactor. This compacting helps in storing five times more waste before needing to be emptied. The sensors built in the smart bins detect when the bin is full. This helps them to send s to Bee'ah control room after which the collections squad from their service division Tandeef get into action to clear the bins.
