Visiting children with Cancer- bringing food and dolls

by | 11-07-2016 23:43

Last Monday, Green Team Indonesia and I went back to the Sanglah Hospital to wrap up the dolls that we have donated for the kids that are suffering from Cancer. The last time we went there, we brought them dolls, but we were told to wrap up the dolls first before we are allowed to give the dolls to the children.

We were brought to the kids play room where our dolls are being kept and we brought plastics and colourful ribbons to wrap up the dolls nicely. We used plastics to prevent the dolls from getting dusty easily.

We also brought food for the parents to eat as we felt that we were too focused on the kids when the parents also needs attention. They must be very bored so we are in the process of donating magazines for the parents there so they dont get bored while waiting for their children to go through their medication. There are 28 children with both parents accompanying them.

In the kids play room, we found a ?Pohon Harapan? which translates to the Tree of Hope. One of the wishes from one of the children was

?Dear God, I only have one wish right now. Please heal me from this sickness that I have (Leukaemia), Amen. From a kid who is from Bima City?

(Bima City is a city in the eastern coast of the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia.)

This brought tears to our eyes. One of them asked for a hello kitty doll. To us, a hello kitty doll is nothing, but to one of them, a hello kitty doll is everything. We were so lucky to have brought a hello kitty doll without knowing it earlier. It was my sister and I who donated the hello kitty doll. We felt that we did not need it as much as these children does and so we donated it.

When we gave the food to the parents, they were so happy and they asked me where we were from. I told them we were from Green Team Indonesia and Tunza Eco-generation and I explained to them what Tunza Eco-generation. They were very happy and surprised that we would take the time to help them. One of the parents gave the food to his child and the child jumped up and down in excitement when the child saw the food. I had to try so hard not to cry in front of them.

It was a very nice experience and we will for sure be back here again soon. As the motto of Green Team Indonesia says Spread The Word of Kindness.

Also, we dont post any pictures of the cancer children because we respect their needs of serenity during medication
