Green Buildings, often called a sustainable building are buildings which are said to be environmentally responsible as well as resource efficient in all the aspects including construction, operation, demolition, etc. All the Green Buildings have some common objectives including but not limited to:
Green building rating systems such as BREEAM (United Kingdom), LEED (United States and Canada), DGNB (Germany), CASBEE (Japan), and VERDEGBCe (Spain) help determine a structure?s level of environmental performance. They rate buildings on different levels based on various factors. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide. It was initiated by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, and maintenance of green buildings and homes that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and helps recognize pioneers in environmental constructions. The Tower at PNC Plaza in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, opened in October 2015, is the greenest skyscraper ever built and has LEED Platinum certificate. The change initiative is the World's Most Sustainable LEED Platinum certified building. It is present in Dubai. I had attended a environmental seminar at the building. |
