THE HONOR MEDAL from the MONTREAL PROTOCOL

by | 09-07-2016 19:38

According to the general direction of renewable energy under the Turkish Ministry of Energyand Natural Resources , imported coal has  risen from 1.1% (2002) to 9.9% (2011)in the distribution oftheprimary sources of energy produced .

Approximately half the coal used for power generation is imported. With a young population and a rapidly growing economy, the installed capacity is projected to grow   rapidly: this could mean more importations or more coal mines.

On 13 May 2014, an explosion at a coal mine in Soma, Manisa, Turkey, caused an underground mine fire, which burned until 15 May. In total, 301 people were killed in what was the worst mine disaster in   Turkey's history. Unfortunately, The carbon-dioxide per energy output of coal fires is much higher than any of the other fossil fuels.

We should then remember that Turkey has received the "MEDAL OF HONOR" from the UN as one of countries that had better implemented the "MONTREAL PROTOCOL". This Protocol's aim is the protection of theozone layer.

This proves that Turkey is becoming a good student in the school of environment policies.

 Our
governments do mistakes but it is better we accept their wins and encourage them when they make a progress.
