![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Recycling means to collect segregate and process recyclable materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turn them into new products. When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products. Recycling saves a huge amount of energy because making products from raw materials costs much more than when products are made from recycled products. Segregation of waste reduces the pressure on the landfills and helps in reducing the levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Therefore, this helps to preserve natural resources and sustain the environment for future generations.
I started segregating waste at my home from a very young age and continuing the same practice even today that was instilled in me by my parents. We can conserve the resources for the future generations by reducing, reusing, upcycling and recycling of materials. I promote the collection of paper, glass, toners, plastic, mobile phones, beverage cartons, aluminum cans and batteries. I segregate each and everything that can be recyclable at our home and we should keep in mind that the household waste should be minimized as we are generating more waste per household. The amount of rubbish generated per individual is constantly increasing as people are buying more products and ultimately creating more waste. The recyclable waste can be recycled into some useful material whereas non-recyclable wastes may be destroyed in some eco-friendly manner, if waste is not segregated it eventually lead to the pollution of environment and land.
We should encourage our community to collect recyclables on a regular basis. Judicious use of resources in most efficient way in useful manner will make a country conserve its resources which itself will lead to sustainability. Saving the resources by not wasting them should be our utmost priority so they will available for our future generations. I again and again repeat in all my campaigns that ¡°we do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors but we borrow it form our children¡±. It is the responsibility of each and every individual to help make our planet a better place to live. We all must play a role in preserving and protecting the environment because the climate change that we are witnessing now is actually a result of our activities.
I have seen that people usually dump all the accumulated garbage waste generated in their household in the common waste bins. But do they have any idea as to where all this waste is going, no, many don¡¯t. So, I took the initiative of placing waste segregation cartons outside the garbage chute on various floors of my building with a simple message: ¡®Do your part to save our Mother Earth¡¯. It is necessary that we adopt a policy of segregating waste to maintain the ecological balance in our ecosystem and to substantiate the welfare of our future generations actions like this make people more aware of the importance of segregating waste. Now instead of throwing the recyclable items in the general waste bin they are putting them in these cartons. It really gives immense satisfaction when we see that all this material will be recycled instead of ending up at some landfill. After a certain amount of waste is accumulated, I then deposit these recyclable materials to the leading environmental waste management companies including the Dubai-based Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and Sharjah-based Bee¡¯ah.
I conclude by saying that these awareness campaigns have a positive impact on the lifestyle of an individual and play a crucial role in diverting the amount of waste headed to landfills. Recycling saves energy and helps in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. I always want that the residents in my community should get accustomed with the practice of waste segregation and adopt the policy in their daily lives. I believe that waste management companies should formulate an alternative solution to this predicament by imposing fines on those who produce more waste and don¡¯t segregate. It should be made mandatory to not accept mixed waste. Segregation is must to lead a green lifestyle and to bring change towards a sustainable and green future.
