World Environment Day Online Contest to promote 'Say No to Wild life trade'

by Arushi Madan | 13-06-2016 01:06

This year theme for World Environment Day is 'Go Wild for Life' which signifies the importance of caring for animals , being kind to them ,  abstaining from killing them and not abusing them in any manner. The theme aims to spread awareness about the serious issue of wild life trade by conveying message 'Stop wild life trade'.

As President of youth community group 'Students for the Earth' I organized an online contest to spread this message through this contest.

Rules were as follows,  To participate:

  • Post your picture with any animal.
  • Write a one line message in line with the theme e.g. Say no to animal abuse  /  Let's save animals/ Let's say NO to wild life trade /Don't shoot animals with guns, shoot them only with cameras.
  • Best 3 entries (picture with message) will be announced as winner .
  • Be creative with your picture or message.
  • Pl send your entries to Arushi Madan at madhumadan2003@yahoo.co.in
  • While sending entries, pl write your name and school.

After registering it with WED2016 site, I launched it on 5th June.

I was amazed to see such a great response to this event. I got 65 entries for this contest means 65 students took pains, clicked picture with anima l(or may be took out their old picture with animal ) and posted with their message in line with this year WED theme.  I was happy that this contest served it's purpose of spreading awareness about need to stop illegal wild life trade, need to protect animals, need to stop animal abuse of any kind.

I can't post all the entries but am posting few of them.

I ran this contest from 5th-8th June and announced the results on 9th June. Response was so overwhelming and to inspire people, I decided to award to 6 winners rather than 3.

Winning entries were uploaded to share with people.

I personally NEVER buy any product which is made out of animal abuse. I dislike the concept of circus where animals are used to entertain humans because in these circus , animals are being ill-treated and injected with chemicals to over-perform in such events.  Idon't  eat meat as I am 100% vegetarian. I know these habits of mine or this contest may be small  effort from me but it may be small at individual level but if all of us observe this, if all of us boycott animal abuse/wild life trade then collectively it will make a big difference,  it will bring a big positive transformation and will put an end to wild life trade because if no demand , this industry will not survive.
