![]() ![]() ![]() Water- an essential element of the earth- life without water is as body without soul or machine without oil/fuel, everyone on the earth is dependent on water and food- people can not survive without them and according to science, one can live just 7 days without water. Few decades ago, Pakistan was among the richest countries of the world but a recent survey by the world bank, Pakistan is at number 17 who is facing water scarcity which involves water crisis, water deficit, and water stress and water shortage. Thus at present Pakistan is having bad drought and water shortage which is expected to endure in few years as per history. (Source: Google) There are many reasons or causes for water shortage in Pakistan- overuse of water by people in case of land, car washing, extra bathing, animals or many other things. Major reason could be rain fall/snow fall- since last few years rain fall/snow fall has become third time less, otherwise it could be managed with proper resources. Another major problem said to be low storage capacity by state and in available resources, existing storage is reducing due to silting up. Available dams-Mangla, Chashma and Tarbela are also leaving their storage capacities which is causing reduction in available water. Agriculture sector is most important sector of the Pakistan- Pakistan's major portion of the economy lies on agriculture and this sector consumes high amount of water- sugar can crops and rice corps demands large amount of water as compare to other crops. Another is Industries, industrialization consumes high amount of water for industrial products and a large amount of water gets dirty in this process. The shortage of water is causing adverse effects on the economy of Pakistan- as shortage of water is reason for less agriculture, therefore, to fulfill the demands we have to rely on the other countries which results in more cost. Water shortage has strong impact on the major production of important crops of Pakistan like cotton, wheat, rice and sugar-cane. This issue is causing unemployment for people so they are migrating to biggest cities and migration is causing disputes between provinces of Pakistan which may harm the integrity of nation. Now, the Government of Pakistan should focus on the two basic elements such as with water development and water management- Management is the need of Pakistan at present therefore, in the development side big dams should be developed such as Kalabagh Dam, Mirani Dam and many others. Government should take serious actions or steps in order to meet/overcome this major problem- it should do actions on the already developed dams and good management strategies should be adopted to resolve this issue as soon as possible. #SaveWater #SaveLives #SaveEarth Reported by: NILESH KUMAR LUHANA E-Ambassador of Pakistan +92 333 2547487 nileshk@live.com |
