On the 20th of May, Ramada Hotel Ajman invited my We Care youth group to showcase their environmentally-friendly CSR initiatives and green actions. Ramada Ajman is the only hotel in UAE that uses Composting Machines to convert food wastes from the hotel kitchens into nutrient-rich manure. As pointed out by the head kitchen chef, hotels and restaurants are the chief sites of food wastage and hence, the hotel took the initiative to tackle the issue through individual action. Coincidentally, the compost machine was imported from South Korea :) This manure is then used in the growth of local varieties of plants in their Ramada Organic Garden. The local varieties included ladyfingers, basel, raddish and mint and rocket leaves. Once grown, they are used as ingredients in the preparation of food in the hotel kitchens. In this manner, the food wastes that are discarded from the kitchen, are recycled back into food ingredients and return to the kitchen. Besides this, the excess oil that remains after cooking in the kitchens is donated to recycling organisations that convert it into bio-diesel. Apart from all of this, the hotel has installed countless Waste-Segregation Bins across several locations, ascertaining that the hotel residents do not have to walk long distances to the bins and in this way, further encouraging them to go green. All these features make Ramada-Ajman one of the greenest hospitality locations in the UAE🌱♻♻♻ The hotel truly stands as a green example to a number of other hotels and resorts.
