![]() I had been involving in environmental leadership since 3 years and in these years wherever I am, whatever I am, I had been focusing on green living. With support of Tunza Eco Generation and other local organizations in Nepal, I had been actively organising Eco-program at school level with the objective of nurturing young minds, especially school kids to be eco-friendly, urge their locality to be eco-friendly and raise voice against environmental lacks. As per my experience, I had seen 2 types of children in school level. One who is well known about eco-friendly behavior and green living and follows the code of conduct. Another who is well known but disrespects the feeling of green living. And this is the psychological lack among students and it is what we are changing. Recently, as a Sub-Coordinator of Environment Friendly Local Governance Program (EFLGP) , I was in 5 schools of Chitwan for conducting orientation program on EFLGP, Climate Change and its various aspects, Green living. I was there with Coordinator Birendra Paudel, youth eco-leader Prakriti Dhakal. Altogether we conducted 9 programs in different 9 schools under this Campaign. Being frank, most of the parents in Nepal do not guide Students and when we guide them , some students doesn't response to our words . Expect few students we felt change in the habit of students after the completion of program. When our efforts combine with the "my feeling" of students as well as their parents and teacher, change is possible otherwise these all campaigns are waste of time and money. One of the students told "Most of us are well known about these eco-habits, many other organizations also organise program from time to time, but we don't follow them continuously with some exceptions." This is what we got to listen from her. So, now personally I think eco program should not only focus on environmental facts but also on motivation so, we can inspire them psychologically. We need both awareness creation and motivation from our side and implementation from students, parents and teachers side. And it is what made me to ponder, motivation along with eco-presentation is needed among students to wake up them, raise them form their thinking level and march them ahead and join with our effort of being green. Government, NGOs, INGOs spends huge sum of money for such programs and if their results aren't assessed, it is just a waste. So, let's ask being frank, let's measure the success of our program. Only Photos of the program are not efficient, we need change. Change in the behavior of students after the completion of program. We need quality programs not quantity of programs. |
