UMUGANDA PROGRAM ALL OVER RWANDA

by | 01-05-2016 05:40

UMUGANDA is the menstrual program undertaken in Rwanda since so many year ego, even in the royalty. It is part of the constitution. This program consists of public works done by all the population in response to the temporal needs they select what activity to be done. This is done each last Saturday of the month.
Here are examples of activities done: constructing roads, cleaning roads, planting trees, constructing houses for people in need or public institutions like schools. People clean in their compounds by cutting bushes around,... At the end of each meeting people conduct a talk according to what was prepared.
Today in Musanze people constructed the road as many roads, were spoiled by runoffs.  people were actually motivated and many of them were the youth. This is a volcanic area where people are very risky to contract malaria, due to its cold climate and a forest surrounding

In a short talk, I undertook an presentation on malaria after telling them about Tunza Ecogeneration. we saw together the historical background of malaria. causes, consequences and prevention strategies of malaria. say cutting bushes around dwellings since they become the favorable host for malaria, the vector for plasmodium sleeping in the mosquito nets with insecticides. this becomes a barrier and kills incoming mosquitoes. while working in fields people should apply mosquito repellents. when they fall sick the last option must be to go to the hospital, to have the most focused care instead of going in the traditional healers without the ability to diagnose test basing. Traditional medicine is not dose based that it can lead to toxicity hence hepatic complications. so people should take care.

At the end, all people were reminded that UMUGANDA plays a big role to the country's economy and development that it is a duty for every Rwandan. Let me wish everybody in every corner of the world to participate in public activities that emphasize on the betterment of his country. Be green all of you.

Nkunda from Rwanda!
