Technologies that save the Environment

by | 25-04-2016 18:20

The United Arab Emirates, the country dubbed of being the hub of green sustainable living, is making progress in leaps and bounds in the field of innovating solutions for conserving the environment by the most efficient use of technology. The leaders are doing the best they can to adopt the method of making development while conserving the environment.

We are well aware of the fact that the technology alone will not solve every environmental issue, but it is part of the solution. Take very simple example of Tunza Eco Generation platform that helps us to raise our voices in support of the environment through the use of the technology to extend the reach by connecting like minded people from all around the globe to make this world a better place. So this is what where technology helps us all make a positive difference. At the same time it should not only be useful for a portion of society but efficiently reach out to enough people at a reasonable cost to bring positive changes in our community. Here I want to discuss the concept of Ecological Modernism in:

Energy Generation

1.To reduce the need for fuel wood, coal and hydroelectric dams, the Gravity Light is used as an electricity source generated by the slow fall of a lifted weight, can bring power to billions around the world resulting in less deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions and fewer aerosols in the atmosphere.

2. Energy from controlled fusion reactions. Fusion drives our sun, but safely replicating that process on Earth to create a sustainable energy.

3. Improved solar, wind, and tidal energy technologies

Waste Management

Nanoparticles are being tested for their ability to absorb pharmaceutical compounds in drinking water and carbon dioxide at power plants, a trick gleaned from sea urchins that use nickel to turn seawater?s carbon dioxide into shell. Recent proposals to build enormous arrays to trap waste plastic in ocean gyres have also garnered much attention and represent a concept advocating action at an appropriate global scale. So technologies that can better reduce the most harmful waste products like greenhouse gases, chlorofluorocarbons that destroy stratospheric ozone, radioactive waste, and toxins and other harmful compounds are certainly useful if significant volumes can be cleaned up to markedly improve conditions for the entire biosphere.

The use of microorganisms for these tasks is called Bioremediation, and it employs bacteria or fungi to decontaminate waste water from cities. These alternatives show that living technology will be crucial in promoting sustainable development.

Agriculture

Technological advances in agriculture can greatly increase productivity on less land and with less need for poisons (that are herbicides, pesticides, fungicides). Agricultural advances have the potential to benefit many farmers, increase food security, reduce the need for conversion of natural lands, and improve the quality of life for humans. Fewer pesticides will also help pollination systems rebound and natural ecosystems to be more resilient. The genetic modification of crops has many controversial benefits and drawbacks.

Cell phones, money transfer apps, micro-financing services, and accessible weather forecasting are other technology-based tools that are helping millions of farmers and marketers in developing countries.

We can say the more efficient and fairer the farming is, the less natural habitat will be lost and as a result we will see greater food security and social stability. Technologies like nuclear power and GMOs are usually spoken of as threats to the environment and biodiversity.

Environmental Wellbeing

More innovative technologies in the society that should be more accessible and should act as a vigilant watchdog on those who commit crimes against our Mother Earth will be really helpful. Simple technological advances, such as innovative designs for our houses, green roofs, rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient building, waterproofing may help bring a major reduction in disease in many parts of the world, making for a better quality of life and enhanced stability.

Saving Biodiversity

Drones are currently counting elephants, rhinos, whales, orangutans and so on are mapping forest loss and fire damage and tracking poachers, they are helping customs agents, protected area managers, and conservationists maximize limited resources and manpower.

We can say that the Research, Scientific and Technical innovation are most welcome for the sustainable environment. Smarter, greener and more efficient technologies can be used as key to solving big environmental problems. The science and technology can be better prepared to meet the challenges of the Global Warming, Pollution and Climate Change concerns and will allow us to move towards an environment friendly lifestyle. All in all technology can help us all make a positive difference towards our Mother Earth.
