Air pollution in Indonesiaby | 01-04-2016 01:09 |

Over 250 million individuals populates Indonesia, meaning over 250 million people are contributing to air pollution in Indonesia causing our air pollution level to be quite high. This is due to the fact that most of Indonesia?s inhabitants uses modern transport such as cars, motorcycle, etc. Most parts of Indonesia also lacks in pubic transport or most of their inhabitants uses private vehicles. The use of public transport is lacking in Bali, Indonesia because it is often considered unsafe by our citizens. This in turn causes the increase in the use of private vehicles. Traditional transport system were used in most parts of Indonesia, but is now banned as it is considered to be the cause of traffic jams. This traditional transport system includes becak a form of transport using bicycle and a small carriage that could fit two people. A lot of the public transport in Indonesia contributes to air pollution as they are still traditional and their engines aren?t modern yet so they produce lots of greenhouse gases. In the year 2006, an air pollution test was conducted to measure the concentration of pollutants such as nitrogen oxide, lead, etc. The results was bad as it was found that lead concentration was upper threshold. A high lead concentration in an area is bad for the area?s inhabitants as the absorption of lead by the body may cause in health issues such as headaches, constipations and, for pregnant women, the damage in their developing baby?s nervous system. It may also cause miscarriages and infertility to both men and women. A way for us to be able to decrease air pollution in our region is by doing simple things such as using environmental friendly public transport (buses that runs on biodiesel, etc.) or by having carpools with your friends. Your friends could pick you up for school and vice versa. We would be able to spend some quality time with them and also help decrease air pollution. Another way of decreasing air pollution would be by planting more trees as carbon dioxide is a huge pollutant and leaves traps carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Not only would this decrease air pollution, but it would also make our region look better. So let?s make a difference by doing simple things. It?s not too late yet. |
