|LATIN AMERICA| Argentina- More soybean and Less forest

by Luiz Bispo | 10-03-2016 21:08

Do you know that Argentina is famous for soybean as well as soccer? Yes! Especially, Argentine province of Córdoba is mainly involved with in soy production, which has been a important export crop in Argentina.

However, it is said that the expansion of soy plantation has a huge effect on deforestation in history, which has occurred the environmental damage seriously.

Over the past decade, the increase of soy production make the Córdoba lost its native forest annually. Only 12% of this province'forest is left. The hill and mountain has been destructed dramatically.

To make matters worse, cutting the forest on a large-scale enable the rainwater rapidly to move away, which causes the water shortage. The mountain plays a significant role absorbing water and releasing it slowly so that if deforestation continues, the natural water function will be destroyed.

This tragic deforestation problem is not only Argentina's matter. Only 7% of Paraguay's Atlantic Forest remains because of the transformed area for cow pastures and cropland, which led erosion and water pollution.

It is necessary to use the natural sources in a sustainable way to achieve the economic success and distribute the wealth at the same time. There are various efforts for saving environment such as surveillance, arrest, fines, relevant laws etc. but seems not to observe the law well.

It is important to be aware of environmental problems and to have a mind to protect our earth voluntarily.
