Say NO to Food Waste

by Arushi Madan | 21-02-2016 04:27

Thanks  to Tunza Eco Gen for dedicating this month to a serious issue of  food wastage.

I must confess that when I was small, I never used to finish my food.  My mum started giving me smaller portions but however small portion I used to get , I had the  habit of leaving the last 2 bites.  Even till few years ago ,  my mother used to get annoyed seeing me wasting food. Then she used to tell me "You study, I will feed you" and she used to feed me without my attention. That way she used to make me eat full portions available in plate. She kept reminding me one way or the other "It is sin to waste food, If you waste food , God will stop giving us food and our whole family will have to sleep hungry". It started getting into my head , mind and conscious. Later as I became environment conscious/energy conscious , I read and came to know how harmful it is to waste food-it is harmful to environment , to the country's economy and is a disgrace of food .

I am proud to say that all of us in our family here and my grandparents back home have inculcated the habit of taking small quanity to ensure that we finish what we take. Infact we have recently put a notice "Say no to Food wastage" on our dining table.

If cooked food is left , my mother makes stuffed parathas with that or bread sandwich or bread patty .

Food wastage is not only a wastage of food per say but it is a wastage of energy and all the resources which have gone into it's production.

Let's say NO to food waste.
