Man's impact on the ecosystem

by | 09-02-2016 20:38

Our planet is warming up and we are definitely part of the problem. However, this isnt the only environmental problem that we should be concerned about. Some human activities may not have immidiate negative effects,  but they have long term and irreversible consequences. Across the world, people are facing a wealth of new and challenging environmental problems every day. Some of them are small and only affect a few ecosystems, but others are drastically changing the landscape of what we already know.

The dynamic equilibrium of an ecosystem is fragile.Every thing is linked directly or in directly to other things in it.

Our planet is poised at the brink of a severe environmental crisis. Current environmental problems make us vulnerable to disasters and tragedies, now and in the future. We are in a state of planetary emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us. Unless we address the various issues prudently and seriously we are surely doomed for disaster.

Carbondioxide gas is produced when trees and fossil fuels are burnt. Carbondioxide is a major green house gas as it traps the sun's heat and prevent it from escaping into space, just like the way a greenhouse traps heat from the sun.

Ice on earth will melt and this will cause water to exapnd and will cause the sea level to rise. Global warming can lead to drastic climate change, not only places will get hotter but some places will get colder.

Untreated waste water is released directly released into lakes and rivers will acids and pesticides causing very harmful acid rain.

So before too late it is imperative that  we environmentalist take firm action regarding it. One way to keep our environment clean is to practise 3'R's - reduce, reuse and recycle. Another way is to reduce the use of energy, we can use technology to develop materials which are environment friendly. For example biodegradable energy bags and containerswhich can be btoken down by decomposers hAve been produced. Cars which do not have as mush fossil fuel also have been developed. We can also use technology to harness renewable energy recourses as solar energy, solar cells can be used to capture light energy from the sun and convert it to electrical energy.

Some environmental problems can be solved immidiatly by individuals while others require the joint effort of many different parties, including organizations and governments of various countries over long periods of time.

Research institutes for example can invent and design new technologres such as energy efficient machines and industrial process which use cleaner fuels.

We should recognize that the long term progress of mankind is intricately linked to the environment. We can all work towards sustainable development by conserving the environment so that the need of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
