My name is Chayanun Kongfahpakdipong, I'm from Thailand and last month, me and my friend attended the 2016 GYELS. We met many people from around the world who shares the same goal as us, to save our Earth. The summit take place at Seoul, Korea. The first day, we arrived at the airport and met our guide, Sophie. We went to a restaurant near our hotel and ate dinner there. We introduced ourselves and after dinner ,and the warm welcome of the staff members and our chairperon, Mr. Luiz Bispo, we went back to our hotel called, Ramada Seoul hotel. We quickly checked in and went to our rooms to get some rest. The second day we woke up and to our surprise, it was snowing! We ate breakfast at our hotel and head to Seoul National University (SNU). We registered, got our name tags and assigned seats. We listened to 4 lectures that day, all concerning the topic sustainable energy. All of them were very interesting such as the first zero energy housing complex in Korea and efforts to make sustainable energy in practice in the EU and Denmark. We had sandwiches for lunch and after the lectures, Sophie took us to a restaurant for dinner. We head back to SNU on the third day, but when we arrived, we were escorted into a room called, Glocal Hall. Tables are arranged in groups and we sat at tables according to our team. I was in team F, my friend from Thailand was in team C. In each team, there are 5 different stakeholders: developed countries, developing countries, industries, academic experts, and NGOs. It was also the day we would get to meet with the Korean delegates. They are all very nice and friendly and we soon become friends. A lecture was also given that day by Dr. Hana Kim, to give us an idea about what we can do as stakeholders. After designing our own team flag, we went into our stakeholders groups (according to roles). We had a discussion and a little debate within our group, we exchanged notes and discuss what we can do to help our environment regarding the climate change happening right now. Then we had pizza for lunch and the secret angel selection ceremony. After the stakeholders discussion, we went back to our team and present our ideas of what we can do as we are stakeholders. We are required to do a report and presentation draft, the real presentation has to be finished by tomorrow (28th January 2016). We quickly brainstorm and wrote down everything we had. Within 1 hour, the report and the presentation draft must be done. It was done. My best friend, and our team leader, Patricia, was very happy and we decided to finish our presentation that very night. On the fourth day, after a very long (and fun) night, we went to Everland! An amusement park in Korea. We had lots of fun at Everland, we ate lunch there and then we went to Samsung Engineering Head Quarters. At Samsung Engineering Head Quarters, we were given a brief tour about its history and its amazing program to donate books. We were then inside a small hall. We were seated according to our teams, and when Mr. Luiz started to call the groups out to present, we were really nervous and excited as it was getting closer to our team. Every team did their best and when the results came out we were shocked to won one of the prizes! Our team leader, Patricia said to us that she?s very proud of our team and I could see her beaming that whole day. Then came the individual presentation and at dinner time, we reveal our secret angels and exchange gifts. It was a very memorable night. On our last day together, we were very sad to part but we promised to keep contact each other and to do the best we can to raise awareness in other people about climate change and to take actions. When we came back, everyone still contact each other, many of us sent back pictures of what they did after they came back from Korea. I am very thankful for all supporters and sponsors of this summit. It is the best start for our new year 2016. |
