Experiment on the chemical subtances -2

by | 04-02-2016 00:36

Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is the ambassador of South Korea. Today, I would like to present the second experiment as the extension of the past article.

The topic of this experiment is the effect of various chemical substances. Like the first experiment, I performed it with beans and the basic process of experiment is same as the first one. The experiment lasted for one month, and I started to water chemical substances from the second week. One difference is that I watered various attenuated chemical substances, which are Miwon(chemical flavor enhancer, the one that I used in the first experiment. The chemical property is similar to MSG, monosodium glutamate), sugar, and caffeine. In 200ml of water, I put 1.25ml of chemical substances, therefore, the approximate concentration would be 0.62%.

The following are the results of this experiment.

Compared to the last experiment, I results were not that vivid. I think this is because of the difference in type of bean. Moreover, I assume that the concentration of the substances was quite high which lead to osmotic pressure phenomenon. Well, anyway, I measured the height and the number of the leaves. The below graph shows the result.

The experiment had some errors so the result shows some strange points. The fact is that the starting point (before watering chemical substances) of the beans were different Water started with 2cm, caffeine 12cm, Miwon 2cm, sugar 8cm. Next time, if I have another opportunity, I want to improve this part. Well, anyway, as you can see, sugar showed better growth compared to Miwon(MSG). We can expect that chemical substances can effect badly compared to natural substances from this result.

In 3rd and 4th week, the plants started to dry and fall out because of the chemical substances. So I had to compare second week's result. Like the upper result, sugar had more leaves than Miwon(MSG).

So, the overall result. The experiment showed some mistakes, however, we can still see how harmful chemical substances are to organisms. I believe there would be no difference for environment as well. These experiments were just roundabout methods to see the influence of chemical substances so I want to learn more about them in a more professional way in the future. Thanks for your reading and let's all reduce using chemical substances.
