New Year's resolutions are goals that you set for the coming year. For this topic, I have decided to share some green resolutions that I will be mindful of this year. I think resolutions are to be kept daily for you to say you have succeeded in keeping your goal. Therefore, I want to make daily decisions that may better the future of our environment. First of all, we can reduce the amount of electricity we use in our daily lives. This includes turning your lights off during the day, unplugging power chords when devices are not in use, and limiting the use of the heater and the air conditioner. Another interesting way to save energy or heat in buildings is by using a revolving door. This will help keep the heat trapped inside instead of flowing out. Another way you can save electricity is to buy a compact fluorescent light, which lasts longer than the regular lightbulb. This will save you time as you won't have to change your bulbs so often as I have a CFL myself. Overall, these are all very simple tasks that people can easily ignore and cast aside. Another resource we use a lot throughout the day is water. Taking a shower for a shorter amount of time and not taking frequent baths are some simple ways to save water. Turning off the sink when we're brushing our teeth can save up to five gallons of water a day too. In order to reduce the amount of plastic, we can reduce the amount of bottled water we buy. Instead, you can try to use the tap water at your house or install a container if you don't have one. Overall, these are all very simple tasks that will improve our environment. |
