Nine Kaski-based lakes including Fewa, Rupa and Begnas have been collectively included in the Ramsar list.

Representatives from the Secretariat of Ramsar based in Geneva are scheduled to provide an official certificate towards this end amidst a programme this Feb 2 2016 to commemorate the World Ramsar Day.

Khaste, Kamalpokhari, Guide, Neureli, Dipang, Khaste and Maidital are other lakes chosen for inclusion in the wetland list, according to Pokhara Valley Lake Conservation Committee Kaski. Inclusion in the Ramsar list would bring these ponds international recognition.

Known as "Simsar" in Nepal, wetlands are those areas which lie between the land and deepwater and remian waterlogged or submerged under water, seasonally or throughout the year. Generally the land is so muddy that one cannot easily walk over it, and water is so deep that one can neither swim nor get drowned.

The Ramsar Convention is formally the Convention on the conservation of wetlands of international importance and it was signed on February 2, 1971 at Ramsar city of Iran.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Gokya Lake of Solukhumbu, Gosaikunda of Rasuwa, Jagdishpur of Kapilvastu, Rara of Mugu, Ghodaghodi of Kailali, Maipokhari of Ilam and Bishajari Lake of Chitwan have been already included in the Ramsar list.

Wetlands considered as storage of biological diversities have important role in the ecosystem . A total of 2,225 wetlands of 169 countries have been included in the Ramsar list to date.
