Birthday Letter to Mt. Everest on Occasion of IMD 2015

by Prakriti Dhakal | 12-12-2015 09:14

Happy birthday to you..

Happy birthday dear Everest..

I am glad for the cold breeze you blow across my landscape. It is refreshing and I feel a lot of gratitude towards you but I am afraid I won't be able to attend your birthday celebration coz I feel I don't  have a deserving gift for all your benevolence. You have given my ancestors and me a lot. You are a lot older than my grandma yet you are as vibrant as ever in your everlasting youth.

You remind me of my mother upon whose lap I grew. Though we don't have that blood relation I have with my mother, I feel an intimacy of nationality. And for me that's the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.

You made our land pure, you made my siblings united together. Because of you! We can raise our head high up and can say, " I am Nepali, Mt Everest is my mother.

Dear Mt Everest, you made the whole world known us.
You welcome the world in our small home and made us feel pride, gave the message of peace to the neighbours.

Trust me. As you grow older you actually become more beautiful more pretty. A heartthrob to be precise. You are my inspiration coz whenever I am down I look at you and a new determination fills me. Your strength inspires me, your sheer mental strength.

I know Everest, its we who ruined your happiness, we are selfish, we are manner less, we showoff our respect for you but we are skeleton inside. We pollute our home our self we are corrupting our own prestige that you saved for us.

How can you withstand such a huge load of humanity on your chest and yet give the most intoxicating of smiles? Will you tell me your secret? Please.Wait I believe I know. Yeah I know you, your secret! Isn't it for the happiness of your children? For my happiness? You do as a mother do for her children. And I love your smile as always.

PS :(This letter
is metaphorical , as it expresses my inside feelings, my love for everest and my remorse on what human went on in the name of civilisation and development.)
