Renewable energy sector in Uzbekistan part 1

Renewable energy has been gaining momentum in recent years as countries seek to reduce their carbon footprint and shift towards more sustainable energy sources. Uzbekistan, a Central Asian country, is no exception to this trend. The country is making strides in renewable energy, and many companies and organizations are taking notice.

One such company is Juru Energy, a leading independent energy and sustainability consultancy based in Tashkent with headquarters in London. The company recently announced a paid internship program for 3/4th year undergraduate students in Central Asia. Although the program was designed for students in their third or fourth year of study, even as a second-year student, I applied to it in order not to miss such a great opportunity. The Renewable energy engineering internship program was highly competitive, with applicants required to pass three stages: the application, specific tasks, and interview. I was one of the successful applicants who made it to the final stage of the internship program and waiting for my interview results.

In addition to Juru Energy's internship program, the German Kazakh University (DKU) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) announced a five-day training program for Central Asian women. The selection process for the program was rigorous, with only 12 applicants selected from the entire Central Asian region. The training program is fully funded and will take place from April 17-21, 2023. I am one of the 12 selected participants and is excited to attend the program.

The growing interest in renewable energy in Uzbekistan is encouraging, and I am optimistic about the future of renewable energy in the country. In a follow-up article, I am planning to share my experience and lessons learned from the Juru Energy internship and the DKU/OSCE training program. From this article I hope to inspire others to pursue a career in renewable energy and contribute to the sustainable development of the world.
