                I organized an awareness campaign on the International Day for the preservation of Ozone Layer in my school,New Indian Model School,Sharjah.The session was attended by 100 students of my school. I told the students about the vital role that the fragile layer of gas-The Ozone Layer,plays in the well being of humans and the environment.I explained to them that it absorbs the harmful UV radiations of the sun,thus protecting us from the harmful consequences such as skin cancer,eye cataract,disruption of human immune system and the ecology of the earth.I also enumerated the causes of ozone layer depletion- CFCs released by refrigerators and air conditioners,fire extinguishers,agricultural fumigants,etc.Next,I told them about some of the practical ways by which they can help prevent ozone layer depletion such as proper disposal of old refrigerators and air conditioners in recyclable yards so that ozone depleting chemicals do not get accumulated in the environment.I also highlighted the role that the students of today,being the leaders of the future,can play in the preservation of the environment by creating awareness and initiating activities at local levels.The principal of my school also encouraged the children to take action for environmental conservation.
I also told them about Tunza Eco Generation.I said that it is a Global Environmental Networking platform for children and youth that encourages positive action for nature.I then distributed souvenirs to the Principal and teachers of my schools.I also distributed the B.cards,Eco-Generation pens,leaflets and sticky notes to the students. This awareness campaign was a very enriching experience.All of us,as youth,must initiate such campaigns in our schools to create awareness. |
