|BRAZIL| New law for mines in Brazil's forests.

by Luiz Bispo | 29-08-2015 10:15

There are many laws, conservation projects and researches to protect the rain forests in Brazil. Sometimes, the controversial laws are enacted in the name of the protection of environment. Not only Brazil, but also other countries have concerned about deforestation of the Amazon over the past decade. However, the new law is threatening the country's protecting area again.

The proposal is that most strictly protected area will be developed for mining which include Brazil's indigenous-held land and also proposed hydroelectronic dams would disturb the movement of aquatic species.

However, the proposals note that it will minimize the damage of environment, which is debatable for many people. The people concerned say that the indirect effect from this mega project should be considered. This project is evolved with a large number of workers, leading to dramatic local population growth.

In addition to a fast-growing population, new roads and routes will influence new deforestation. Not to mention that Brazil's biodiversity and resources will be threatened.

Brazil has been successful to reduce the deforestation over the past decade, preserve wildlife habitat and lessen the emission of CO2, however, Brazil should keep supporting the sustainable development. Brazilian government should not get benefit from natural resources.
