Problems Harnessing Ghana and Possible Solution

by | 31-08-2015 00:38

Currently the major problem facing Ghana is poor sanitation. Ghana as a developing country has failed in its attempts to tackle sanitation problems.

Ghana is currently ranked the 4th dirties country in the world. It doesn?t really come as a surprise as our streets are littered with polythene bags and our gutters choked with refuse from the houses of citizens.

Waste management is also becoming an acute problem for urbanization and economic development. The government of Ghana loses about GHC870 million annually trying to tackle the large volumes of waste produced day in and day out but to no effect for no quest to manage these waste efficiently and reduce pollution, disease outbreaks and disasters such as the June 3rd from occurring has a great challenge.

In order to deal with this great problem on poor sanitation and proper waste management is not to only implement the National Sanitation Day which is carried out every 1st Saturday of every month but to also enforce it provision of dust bin and quality utility services will go a long way to curb the poor sanitation and waste management in the country.

In addition to these, re-use, recycling and recovery of waste to create a paradigm shift from the current generate-collect and dispose philosophy will the long run provide jobs for the unemployed and also reduce the cost of managing our assemblies.

It is stated that a country that cannot effectively manage its sanitation problems simply cannot manage more complex issues concerning governance.

So saying, the citizens should be made aware of the situation on the ground. A consistent reinforcement will remind people of their bad habits and whip them into a line. Cleanliness truly is next to Godliness.
