The Great Smell!by | 31-08-2015 00:45 |

Ghana has been ranked as the 4th in terms of poor sanitation in the world. I was astonished when I came across a horrific and unbearable smell at a school. I termed it as the great smell because the smell was intense that student in the school can concentrate in class. Did I say they can concentrate in class well let?s see what happens. Here is what I mean, a school name (withheld) has no rubbish dump to dump their waste. Even the rubbish dumps that they have was a hole aerated on their campus of which was a joy for the people living in the area. These dumps is not only used by student but people living in the surrounding area. Neighbors in the area throw their rubbish at the back of the campus to which make the smell intense.
Curious I was to know why all this are happening. I was privilege to meet the headmaster of the school about the issue. This was what ensued between us. Noah: Good Afternoon Sir Headmaster: Afternoon Noah: I am very happy meeting you. My name is Noah Alorwu, an IT Technical Engineer at Keta Snr. High Technical School. I am the 14th Tunza Eco-Generation Regional Ambassador to Ghana. Tunza Eco-Generation an environmental networking platform for children and youth. You can read more about us via this website I will give you Sir. www.tunza.eco-generation.org Noah: I would like to interview you about the rubbish dump issues facing your school Headmaster: why not. Go ahead, I am very glad to have a concern citizen in my office this afternoon. Noah: thank you. I want to ask why all this mess on the campus. What have you done in your power to curb this and why are they not eradicated Headmaster: well thanks for the question. I must confess that this has been a disgrace to me as the headmaster for this noble school. I wasn?t expecting this to happen in my school at all. Noah: Thank you for given me this moment with you. I promise to try my possible best to create awareness on both media, appeal to NGO?s to support this school. Hope is not lost yet. I can assure you that help is coming for your school soon Headmaster: Thank you very much for coming to our aid. We hope to get that assurance you gave us. |
