March, 2023 Theme Report [WILDLIFE PRESERVATION]

INTRODUCTION

Wildlife is the natural fauna and flora that exist in the world, encompassing a vast array of species and ecosystems. Wildlife plays an essential role in maintaining the ecological balance of our planet, providing many benefits to humans, such as food, medicine, and recreation. However, it is such a tragedy that wildlife populations are under constant threat from human activities. Due to this human; inhumane; activities, a large majority of wildlife suffer from habitat loss, death, or worse, specie-eradication.

REASONS FOR WILDLIFE PRESERVATION
It is of a crucial matter to preserve wildlife not due to one, two, or three reasons but for a whole lot of reasons, some of which include:

Ecological Balance: Wildlife plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of our planet. Each species is an essential component of its ecosystem, and the loss of one species can have far-reaching consequences. For example, the loss of pollinators like bees and butterflies can lead to a decline in crop production, affecting food security and the economy.

Biodiversity: Wildlife contributes to biodiversity, which is critical for the survival of all species on earth, including humans. Biodiversity refers to the variety of life forms, including species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Preserving wildlife ensures the preservation of biodiversity, which is essential for ecosystem functioning, climate regulation, and sustainable development.

Cultural Significance: Wildlife has cultural and aesthetic significance. Many cultures around the world have a deep connection to their local wildlife, and preserving wildlife is essential to maintain their cultural heritage. Additionally, many people find joy and inspiration in observing and interacting with wildlife, which has a positive impact on mental health.

Economic Benefits: Wildlife provides significant economic benefits through tourism and recreation. Ecotourism, which involves traveling to natural areas to observe wildlife, generates income and employment opportunities for local communities. Wildlife also provides resources for industries such as pharmaceuticals and agriculture, which rely on biodiversity for their products.

Ecosystem Services: Wildlife preservation also supports the provision of ecosystem services, such as clean air and water, carbon sequestration, and soil fertility. These services are essential for human health and well-being and support many economic activities such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

Scientific Research: Wildlife preservation also provides opportunities for scientific research, which can help us better understand ecological processes, develop conservation strategies, and discover new drugs and medicines. Many medicines, including antibiotics and cancer treatments, have been developed from compounds found in plants and animals.
